I have had this phone for just over a month, and I really love it. It has been doing something a little strange lately. It will loose the network signal, and say no service. I have a good signal all around me, but it will not connect to the network. I have to restart the phone, and it then acts normal. Anyone else have this problem?

Hi msf290

Setting the network mode to GSM only sometimes helps:

Home > Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks > Network mode: change the radio button to "GSM only"

I checked and its set for GSM only. Maybe a software update will fix this.

Happened again today. Had to restart and service returned. This makes it 4 times since November. Just weird. Anyone else have this happen?

@ msf290

So after all this time, have you contacted your mobile carrier? They're the one responsible for connectivity.

Hello all, just moved over from the HD forum where I've been busy posting about network issues, not realising that there was a sensation forum  Embarrassed

The thread is here - http://www.htcdesirehdforum.com/htc-desire-hd-troubleshooting/network-issues/msg15873/#msg15873

But the last question was, would this help with boosting or improving network issues (it's from another forum where there were tons of Sensation network problems - a lot of people suggesting it was the phone, some that 'rubber' style covers did it, and even more suggesting it was a Vodafone issue) So this solution is nothing to do with me and I don't know if it's safe or sensible to try it or if it will make any difference... but hopefully somebody here will  police

Quote
The steps to apply the fix are as follows:

Access the phone dialer and dial the code *#*#4636#*#* – don’t press the ‘call’ button. After a couple of seconds the test menu will appear.
From this test menu, select ‘phone information’ and scroll down to the first dropdown menu. Select GSM auto (PRL) rather than the likely setting, which will be WCDMA/GSM Auto.
Restart your phone by powering off and back on again. Check the test menu again to ensure the GSM auto (PRL) option has been retained. If not, set it again as above.
What this change does is to force the phone to switch automatically between G/E/3G/HSDPA networks based on Vodafone’s predefined Preferred Roaming List (PRL), rather than the best/strongest signal available. The HTC Legend’s signal problem seems to stem from its inability to switch between signals and its preference to try to latch onto a weak 3G/HSDPA signal rather than a slower-but-stronger 2G signal – this cure should hopefully fix that.

Thanks stewarta13wsb and welcome to the forum.

That's just another way to navigate to Home > Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks > Network mode

OK, thanks for that, but what do you think of the idea itself? Would it help?

It's what I suggested to the OP. If I were personally experiencing connectivity issues, I'd first contact the carrier. Connectivity is their responsibility, especially if the handset came from them. If you acquired the phone somewhere else, I'd still call the carrier but if no joy then I'd try the several modes available here:

Home > Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks > Network mode:

Doesn't matter whether you use the dial pad or the file hierarchy to get there   Smiley

I've now experienced the same issue as the original poster  Sad

Held down the power button and pressed reset and it came back on without any problems.

My handset is sim free (bought the last 2 that way after getting fed up waiting for updates from O2)

O2 Signal issues made me switch to Vodafone and they've been hell.... now I'm wondering if it's the handset?

Can any body give me the definitive settings for my Sensation XE for Vodafone just to check that first?
